Please see the following from BNL President Kevin Baldwin:
"Organizers
of the Tour de Shore are very disappointed to announce the cancellation
of the 2009 race: there is simply not enough interest to proceed.
Registration fees will be returned, to the handful of cyclists who had
looked forward to racing next weekend, as soon as possible.
Race organizers would like to sincerely thank their corporate partners
(Hatch Ltd., G.J. Cahill and White Ottenheimer & Baker) who agreed,
even in this uncertain economic environment, to provide financial
support. Organizers would also like to thank the many volunteers who
had offered to give very generously of their time, and would like to
acknowledge the following for their participation / contribution:
Atlantic Chip Online; the City of St. John's; Royal Newfoundland
Constabulary; Southern Shore Folks Arts Council (Ferryland); and the
Portugal Cove South Visitors' Centre.
The future of the Tour de Shore remains uncertain at this point.
Perhaps the race will be moved to another weekend, or replaced by
something closer to St. John's. Suggestions from the cycling community
would be welcomed." |

See the following announcement from BNL President Kevin Baldwin: BNL confirms that the 2009 Tour
de Shore will go ahead. I apologize for the delay in getting the
official word out. The race will be held on Labour Day Weekend
(Saturday, 5 September and Sunday, 6 September) over the traditional
route. I've confirmed that all of the paving work along the route is
complete, and that culvert installation along the route is "going
well". The department responsible had let a contract for the
installation of 10 culverts, but work is progressing and the pavement
should be patched by the end of the month.
Registration will open soon, and will remain open until mid-week before the race. Check the BNL website (www.bnl.nf.ca) for details.
Finally, we NEED volunteers to
assist with preparation for and implementation of the race. If you are
not interested in riding, please consider helping out. If you are
going to ride, please ask your spouse, parent, child, grandparent, life
partner or neighbour to support your athletic lifestyle by
volunteering. Volunteers can email Glenn at the BNL office admin@bnl.nf.ca.
Thanks,
Kevin |
